In order to be invited to become a part of the 8th grade Liberty Junior Honor Society, students must have earned a cumulative 7th grade GPA of 3.9 or better. The students then must complete an application for membership (three essay questions regarding the importance of scholastic achievement, citizenship, leadership, character, and community service). Once the students apply for membership, the faculty sponsors ask for teacher approval of the candidates.
Throughout the year, LJHS members must earn ten "points." These can be earned by attending the after-school meetings, participating in community service projects, participating in the quilt making, and any other activities members and sponsors designate. The purpose of the LJHS is to create enthusiasm for scholarship building-wide.
