High School Football Games
Dear Junior School Parents and Guardians,
As football season gets underway, we are excited to see the support of our junior school students for our Firebird and Thunderhawk teams. In order to have the best fan and team experience, we are writing to ask for your help.
During the first home games for both Lakota East and West high school teams, our administrators and security noticed that many of our junior school students spent more time socializing in the stadium than in being in their seats while watching the game. While we want our younger students to come and support the teams, it is important that they understand that the student code of conduct and school rules apply at all times when they are at a Lakota event - even if the event is not at their school.
In addition to loud and, at times, disruptive behavior, some of our junior school students were disrespectful, throwing trash and even using profanity towards our staff. Because of this, the security hired for the game had to focus on this behavior instead of other areas involved in ensuring a safe football environment for the fans and teams.
While our principals will be speaking with their students, please partner with us and remind your student about appropriate behavior when attending high school games, or any Lakota event. At this time, we do not plan to change attendance rules for students in grades 6-8. However, should the behavior witnessed at last week’s games continue, we may be forced to follow other area schools and instill rules such as requiring parental attendance for students through eighth grade, limiting the areas younger students can be and requiring the purchase of presale tickets.
We are hopeful that our junior school and sixth graders will make better choices in the coming weeks so that we can all enjoy cheering on our Firebirds and Thunderhawks. Thank you for partnering with us.
Sincerely,
